Taman Sari
The name Taman Sari comes from the Javanese language.
The word taman means “garden” or “park,” while sari means “beauty” or “flowers.”
Therefore, the name Taman Sari literally refers to a beautiful garden complex adorned with flowers.
In historical accounts, Taman Sari is often referred to as the “Water Castle.” By closing the water gates, much of the complex could be flooded, leaving only the taller structures visible above the water.
It once served as a recreational retreat and resting place for the Sultanate of Yogyakarta.
