Áo Yếm Vietnamese Garment
The Áo yếm is a traditional Vietnamese bodice that was once worn as an undergarment by women from all social classes.
It consists of a simple piece of fabric worn over the chest and tied at the neck and back.
The yếm originated from the Chinese dudou and became especially popular in northern Vietnam. It was worn by everyone from peasant women to members of the imperial court and is an important part of the traditional áo tứ thân costume.
The skirt worn with it is called váy đụp.
