Hanoi Citadel
The Imperial Citadel of Thăng Long in Hanoi was built in 1010 by the Lý Dynasty and served as Vietnam’s political center until 1810, when Huế became the capital.
Although many royal buildings were destroyed by the French in the late 19th century, several important structures have survived, including the Doan Mon Gate, the Hanoi Flag Tower, the Kinh Thiên Palace, and the Hậu Lâu Palace.
During the Vietnam War, the citadel served as the headquarters of General Võ Nguyên Giáp, located in the building known as D67.
