Borobudur

Borobudur is the world’s largest Buddhist temple and is located in Central Java, Indonesia.
It was built during the 8th and 9th centuries by the Sailendra Dynasty and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The temple has nine levels topped by a large central stupa. It contains 504 Buddha statues, 72 smaller stupas, and more than 2,600 relief panels that depict Buddhist stories and daily life in ancient Java.

After being abandoned for centuries, Borobudur was rediscovered in 1814 and later restored. Today, it is a major tourist attraction and an important pilgrimage site for Buddhists, especially during the Vesak festival.
