The City of Phnom Penh

In Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, Buddhism is the dominant religion, while followers of other faiths live peacefully alongside one another.

The city’s streetscape is also distinguished by its many guardian statues.
They stand at the entrances to homes and public buildings, along roads and avenues, and at the gates of temples, appearing to have watched over the city and its people for centuries.

Another defining feature is the broad river that flows through the heart of Phnom Penh.
On and along its banks, humble fishing communities make their living, many of them with a Muslim background.
Life here moves at a gentler pace, offering a striking contrast to the energy of the city.
