“I ❤️ REMO”

The signs display messages such as “Bangga Bisa Ngremo” (“Proud to dance Remo”) and “Arek Suroboyo Bangga Nari Remo” (“The youth of Surabaya are proud to perform the Remo dance”).

The young people in red T-shirts are promoting this traditional dance, while the performers behind them wear the distinctive Remo costumes featuring black, gold, and red, along with striking stage makeup.

Remo is the iconic dance symbol of Surabaya, much like flamenco is to Andalusia. That’s why you’ll see slogans such as “I ❤️ Remo” throughout the city, and why the dance is actively promoted to preserve this important cultural heritage.
