                                                                  Pa Then

The Pa Then are a small ethnic minority in northern Vietnam, with a population of about 8,200.
They live mainly in the provinces of Hà Giang and Tuyên Quang and speak a language from the Hmong-Mien language family.
They are known for the women’s colorful traditional clothing, especially their bright red embroidered garments, as well as their farming of rice and corn, livestock raising, and rich cultural traditions.

One of their most famous customs is the Fire Jumping Festival, where shamans walk barefoot across glowing coals as part of a spiritual ritual. Because they have preserved much of their traditional way of life, the Pa Then are a fascinating cultural group for travelers exploring northern Vietnam.
